Detailed itinerary of 7 Days Explore Rwanda Safari

Day 1 – Kigali

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our African Vacation Safaris Representative, and be transferred to your residence in Kigali City. Spend the evening at rest, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2 – Kigali/Nyungwe Forest National Park

Enjoy a delicious breakfast, check out and drive to the Rwanda’s historical towns of Nyanza and Butare where you will visit the Nyanza Kings Palace and the Huye Ethnographic Museum. Enjoy en-route lunch and proceed to the park arriving in the evening, check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 – Explore Nyungwe Forest National Park – Chimpanzee Trek

Enjoy your breakfast and head to Nyungwe Forest National Park for a chimpanzee trekking experience. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulations to follow while in the presence of the chimpanzees, then head into the forest looking for chimpanzees. The trek in search for chimpanzees takes approximately 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night.

You will spend one hour with the chimpanzees as you watch them go on with their life. You are free to take as many photos as possible. Then return to the park headquarters to correct your chimpanzee trekking certificates, head back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you return to the park for a canopy walk.

Day 4 – Nyungwe Forest National Park/ Lake Kivu

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and drive to the beautiful Lake Kivu with en-route lunch. Arrive in late afternoon and spend the rest of the day at leisure enjoying the beautiful views of the lake. There are several optional activities available for you to do.

Day 5 – Lake Kivu/Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri, a beautiful small town located only 25 km from Ugandan border. Spend the rest of the day at leisure as you prepare for the next day’s adventure.

Day 6 – Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla Trek

Today is the climax of your 7 Days Explore Rwanda Safari, after breakfast you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park Headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking. A senior ranger guide will take you through rules and regulation to follow while in the forest.

With your ranger guides, head into the forest looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. You will spend one hour in the presence of these great apes, observing them go on with their life in the forest and take amazing pictures. Return to the park headquarters, meet your guide and return to your lodge for lunch. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 7 – Kigali

After breakfast, depart for Kigali City. Have a short Kigali City Tour visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial Site and Kimiroko Market as well as several craft centres. After lunch, you will be dropped off at the airport to catch your flight back home or to your next destination.
