Itinerary of 6 Days Gorilla & Golden Monkeys Safari

Day 1: Arrival

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our driver-guide and transfer to your hotel in Kampala. Depending on your arrival time, you will enjoy a Kampala City visiting the Kasubi Tombs, Uganda Museum, Kabaka’s Palace, Namirembe Cathedral among others.

Day 2: Transfer to Jinja, Boat on the Source of the Nile

Have an early breakfast, leave Kampala for Jinja with a drive through the Mabira Forest and sugar cane plantations. Head to the famous source of the Nile for a boat cruise. This is the perfect way to enjoy and experience the River Nile. The source of the Nile is located about 80 away from Uganda’s capital Kampala.

The River Nile is the longest in the world, traveling a distance of 6,696 km through Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt where it finally pours it waters into the Mediterranean Sea. On a 2 hours boat cruise you will explore the beauty of the Nile and enjoy its calm waters searching along the shores and small islands for birds, otters and Nile Monitor lizards.

Enjoy lunch, and continue exploring Jinja such as the Source of the Nile Museum, the Uganda Rail Museum, Speke Memorial Monument and Jinja Central Market. In the evening you will drive back to Kampala, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake up for breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – the best gorilla trekking destination in the world located in the South Western Uganda. Along the way you will have a stop in Kayabwe for pictures at the Equator Crossing and a chance to stand in both Northern and Southern Hemisphere at one spot, have another stop in Mbarara for lunch. Continue to Bwindi arriving in the evening, check in your lodge for dinner and overnight and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Enjoy early breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking dos and don’ts and be assigned a gorilla group to trek in groups of 8 people. With armed rangers and guides, head into the rainforest of Bwindi searching for mountain gorillas on a trek that takes approximately 2 to 5 hours or more, depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night.

Once you locate the endangered mountain gorilla, you will spend one hour in their presence watching them play, feed, and groom. Observe the dominant silverback keep an eye on his gorilla group. Later trek back to the park headquarters, meet your driver-guide and return to the starting point, pick your gorilla trekking certificates and drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Arrive in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking

Wake up early for breakfast and report to the park headquarters for briefing about golden monkey trekking dos and don’ts, then head into the forest searching for the cute golden monkeys thriving in the bamboo forests on the slopes of the volcanoes.

Golden monkey trek is less strenuous and you will find these playful primates in a duration of 2-3 hours, have an hour of watching them play, feed, groom, collect bamboo shoots among others

Later trek back to the park headquarters to collect your golden monkey trekking permits, return to your lodge for an evening of rest and reminiscing on the day’s adventure.

Day 6: Departure

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on a journey to Kampala with en-route lunch in Mbarara. You will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back to home.
