Detailed Itinerary of 7 Days Uganda Gorillas, Wildlife & Chimps Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast at your hotel in Kampala, you will set off on a journey to Kibale Forest National Park with en-route lunch in Fort Portal Town. After a short tour of Fort Portal Town, visit the crater lakes and Toro Palace, Karambi Tombs, continue to the park, and check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale forest and Bigodi swamp walk

Enjoy early breakfast, then set off for chimpanzee briefing at the park headquarters from the UWA officials. The rangers will guide you on how to behave while in the presence of the gorillas, then enter into the rainforest looking for chimpanzees. The trek takes approximately 2 to 4 hours depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night.

Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will be allowed to spend one hour in their presence watching then play, feed and groom each other. Also you will spot other primates thriving in Kibale Forest such as red colobus, black and white colobus monkeys, baboons as well as different bird species cuh as great blue turaco.

Return to your lodge for lunch, in the afternoon you will go for a guided walk in Bigodi Swamp in search for the beautiful water birds and enjoy sightings of other primate species.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After a delicious breakfast, you will leave Kibale Forest National Park, and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. En route, the journey will provide with different scenic views of the great mountains of the moon – Rwenzori Mountains. When you arrive in the park with a game drive en route which will offer you with sight of different animals and how they behave at different times. Lookout for animals elephants, leopards, lions and kobs.

Enjoy lunch at the lodge , and in the afternoon continue exploring the park till evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Game drive and Launch cruise

Enjoy breakfast and go for a game drive in Kasenyi Area for a game drive, the game drive will reward with beautiful and a variety of wildlife in the park such as elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, antelopes like bush bucks, water bucks, kobs, warthogs and so on. Later on you will return to your lodge for lunch as you wait for the afternoon launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel, commonly known as the area with the highest concentration of hippos in Africa.

The launch cruise will reward you with views of the most famous water loving animals like crocodiles along the river banks, elephants taking water, hippos and many bird species. Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park

After breakfast, set out for the early morning game drive within the park to search for the early risers and animals you missed out in the previous game drives. Alternatively, you can for chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge. Later on have lunch and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the Ishasha Sector commonly known for its rare tree climbing lions. As you drive through the area, look out for the rare tree climbing lions in fig trees.

Proceed to the park arriving in evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking Experience

After breakfast at lodge, and go to the park headquarters for briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. After the briefing, the ranger will lead you into the thick impenetrable forest to start your search for the endangered rare species of mountain gorillas.

The gorilla search always continues from the place where they were last seen the previous. Upon locating the gorilla family, you will have one hour of being in their presence as you watch them go on with their life in the wild. After this incredible interaction, you will trek back to the starting point where you will meet your driver guide and return to your lodge for an evening of rest, enjoy dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Transfer back to Kampala

After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will drive back to Kampala with your lunch en-route in Mbarara Town. You will be dropped off either at the airport for your departure flight or at the hotel.
