Detailed itinerary of 7 Days Rwanda & Tanzania Safari

Day 1: Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by an African Vacation Safaris representative, he will brief you about the safari and journey to Musanze – the second largest city in Rwanda, located in foothills surrounding the famous Volcanoes National Park.

Depending on your arrival time, you may visit the nearby Twin Lakes or the Ib’Iwacu Cultural Village. Head to your lodge for check-in, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking

Wake up early for breakfast, be picked up by your driver-guide and head directly to Volcanoes National Park’s headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about mountain gorilla trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of gorillas.

Head into the forest looking for mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. Once you locate the gorilla family assigned to you, you will be allowed to spend one hour in their presence watching them play, feed, groom and take amazing pictures to commemorate your gorilla trek. After observing their family dynamics and getting to learn a bit about each gorillas distinct personality in serene silence.

After a complete hike, you will choose to return to your lodge for relaxation or take part in a number of local activities such as the Musanze Cave Tour and the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Kigali – Arusha

Check out of your lodge and embark on a drive back to Kigali City, depending on your flight schedule, you will have a city tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Presidential Palace Museum and the local crafts markets.

Have lunch and be transferred to the airport for your regional flight to Tanzania. On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be picked up by our driver-guide and drive you to your hotel in Arusha.

Day 4: Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park

Depart from Arusha after breakfast and embark on a journey to Lake Manyara National Park on a journey of about 2 hours passing through the market town of Mto Wa Mbu. This agricultural and fresh produce market is a melting port of local cultures and a souvenir hunter’s paradise.

After a brief stop at the village market, you will enter Lake Manyara National Park – a true photographer’s paradise, offering some of the best game including the tree-climbing lions lounging in acacia trees. For birders, you will be treated to sightings of a variety of birds including large flamingo flocks, birds of prey and brightly colored lilac breasted rollers among others. You will retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater-Serengeti National Park

Enjoy a delicious breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Crater, descend 600 meters deep into the crater floor for a game drive. Ngorongoro Crater is one of the 8^th Wonders of the world and home to over 120 species of mammals including the Big Five.

During the game drive you will see a large number of predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas as well as a large population of wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, cape buffaloes and more. You will enjoy picnic lunch in the park and after the thrilling and exciting game drive, you will drive the Serengeti National Park, check in at your lodge and spend the evening.

Day 6: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

Wake up early before dawn for a sunrise game drive, as the sun sets fire to the savannah, you will have the best opportunity to see predators in action as they take advantage of the low light and cooler temperatures to look for an early meal.

Early morning is an ideal time to see leopards, lions and cheetahs in action as well as the early morning movements of the wildebeests, zebras and other herbivores. Alternatively, you may conquer the skies of Serengeti with a sunrise hot air balloon safari and champagne breakfast.

Afterwards, return to the lodge for a full breakfast and freshen up before returning to the park for a game drive till evening.

Day 7: Serengeti National Park-Arusha

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and have en-route game drive and head back to Arusha for a drop-off at the airport.
